Board Information

In today's fast-changing world, organisations, especially charities, nonprofits, and community groups, depend heavily on the dedication of voluntary board members. These individuals bring not only their time, but also their skills and leadership. Voluntary board members serve on the governing body of an organisation without financial compensation. Unlike paid executives, they contribute their skills and leadership purely out of commitment to the mission.

From overseeing strategy to ensuring accountability, voluntary board members play a crucial role in shaping an organisation's future.

Each of our Board members bring a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience from their varied working backgrounds ranging from Education, Teaching, Fundraising, Charity Management, Administration and Accountancy. Their length of service varies from over 20 years to 5 years, seeing many changes along the way. They became involved with Forrest House for many different reasons ranging from having a family member who used the respite services or lived here permanently, through volunteering at the house to being invited to join the Board. They are actively involved with the house, staff, and residents on a regular basis.

Why did they join our Board?

  • To give back to the community
  • To support a cause they care deeply about
  • To use their professional skills in meaningful ways
  • To build networks and leadership experience

For many, it is not just service—it is purpose.

Our voluntary board members bring diverse perspectives and experiences that strengthen decision-making. Their contributions include:

  • Strategic guidance: Helping define long-term vision and goals.
  • Governance and oversight: Ensuring legal and ethical compliance.
  • Financial stewardship: Monitoring budgets and sustainability.
  • Advocacy and fundraising: Acting as ambassadors for the organisation.

Their independence can also be a strength, allowing them to challenge ideas constructively and keep the organisation aligned with its mission.

In their spare time the Board members enjoy spending time with family and friends, especially quality time with Grandchildren. Other hobbies and interests include Travelling, Reading, going to the Theatre, Flower Arranging, Book Club, Drama and organising events.
